No. Adjustable neck and chest or belly tabs help set the closure within a coat’s existing shape; they do not replace its size chart. Closing a strap does not prove that the back length, shoulder area or body coverage is right for your dog.
“Adjustable” is useful information, but it leaves a second question unanswered: which part adjusts? Look at the fasteners as separate components. The fabric body has a fixed cut; the tabs change how the garment closes around particular areas.
Read the neck tab separately from the body tab
The HDE puffer jacket specifies hook-and-loop fasteners at the neck and belly. It also has a fleece lining and a faux-fur-trimmed hood. The front photo helps you locate the neck fastening rather than treating all the red fabric as one continuous panel.

Changing the neck setting does not lengthen the back panel. Changing the belly setting does not create more fabric around the shoulders. Check those areas individually instead of tightening every closure until the garment stops moving.
Read “easy to put on” as a design description
The HDE canvas-style vest describes pullover styling with adjustable hook-and-loop neck and chest tabs. It also lists two side pockets. These features explain the arrangement of the coat, not whether an individual dog will enjoy the process of wearing it.

The pocket remains in the same place on the fabric when you change a tab. If the body of a coat sits awkwardly, closing it more tightly may hide the symptom without making the cut suitable. Start again with the style’s measurement instructions and your dog’s current measurements.
Replace the “it fastens” test with three observations
- Position: Put the garment on according to its instructions. Check where the back panel, neck opening and body panel sit before fastening everything. Compare with the exact style’s chart and intended shape.
- Movement: Once fastened, let your dog stand, take a few normal steps and sit. Watch whether a panel shifts into the front-leg area or interferes with ordinary movement. Stop and remove the garment if your dog appears uncomfortable.
- Closure: Recheck the tab surfaces after movement. If you have to pull the garment out of shape to keep the closure engaged, reconsider the size or cut instead of assuming the adjustable label solves the mismatch.
These observations help you assess a garment at home; they are not a substitute for the manufacturer’s sizing directions. AKC recommends measuring for the specific jacket and introducing coats gradually. A patient first try is more informative than discovering a poor fit when you are already late to leave.
Save a useful note for the next order
Record the coat’s name, the size selected and the measurements its chart asks for. “Medium with the strap tight” is less useful because another style can use a different pattern. Keep the original product chart available when comparing a replacement.
Choose from the live options in Dog Coats & Jackets, or use our pocket-versus-lined-hood shortlist to compare construction. Review the return policy before ordering or altering a garment. A different size or a different shape may be the better answer; adjustable tabs are one feature, not a fit guarantee.
