Plus Size Is Its Own Line at ShopHDE, Not a Size-Up
There is a version of plus size that most shoppers have run into: a brand takes its straight-size pattern, scales every measurement up by a percentage, prints a bigger number on the label, and calls it inclusive. The armhole ends up in the wrong place. The waist sits too high. The rise is short. The garment technically fits, and it fits badly.
We do not do that. At ShopHDE, plus size is its own product line — separate collections, separate size scales, and in many cases a separate product page with its own photography and its own fit description.
What "separate line" means in practice
Separate collections, not a filter
Plus size is not a checkbox buried in a sidebar. It is a top-level destination with its own categories underneath it:
- Plus Size — the full line
- Plus Size Dresses
- Plus Size Bottoms
- Plus Size Tops
- Plus Size Activewear
- Plus Size Swimwear
- Plus Size Sleepwear
That structure matters because it means the plus line is developed category by category — you are not left with plus dresses and nothing to wear on your bottom half.
Separate product pages
Look at a pair like the Flutter Sleeve Skirted Romper Dress and the Plus Size Flutter Sleeve Skirted Romper Dress. Same design intent, two separate listings. The same is true of the Bermuda Shorts and the Plus Size Bermuda Shorts, and of our Capri Pants and Plus Size Capris.
Two listings is more work for us. It also means the fit notes, the model, and the size chart on the page you are reading are the ones that apply to the garment you are actually buying.
The size scales we use
You will see two different systems across the plus line, and which one appears depends on the garment:
Numeric ranges
Many of our plus knits and dresses — the Plus Size Square Neck Midi Dress with Pockets, for example, or the Plus Size Bodycon Midi Jersey Dress — run on a 14-16 Plus / 18-20 Plus / 22-24 Plus / 26-28 Plus scale. Each label spans two US dress sizes because the fabric has enough stretch to cover both cleanly.
X-sizing
Other styles run 1X / 2X / 3X. This is common on woven and structured pieces where the fit is less forgiving and the steps between sizes are deliberately smaller.
Neither scale is a "translation" of the other, so do not assume 1X equals 14-16 across every product. Read the size chart on the individual product page — that is the one that was built for that pattern.
How to pick your size with confidence
Start with the product page chart, not your usual number
Because the scales differ by construction, your size in a jersey midi dress may not be your size in a woven short. The chart on the page is specific to that garment.
Note the fabric and the closure
Pull-on waistbands and smocked bodices absorb a wider range of measurements than a fixed waistband. If you are between sizes on a pull-on style, the stretch usually resolves it.
Check the inseam and the length
Where we offer a specific inseam — 3", 5", 10" — it is stated in the product title. Length is a fit decision as much as waist and hip are.
A note on between-sizes and body shape
Two people with identical measurements can want different sizes out of the same garment, and neither is wrong. A bodycon midi is meant to sit close; an oversize kaftan is meant not to. Before you size up "to be safe", read what the product page says the fit is supposed to do. Sizing up a piece designed to skim can leave it looking unfinished rather than comfortable.
The other common trap is buying a whole outfit at one number. Our plus tops, bottoms and dresses are developed as separate categories with separate blocks, so it is completely normal to be a 2X in a woven top and a 18-20 Plus in a jersey dress. That is the system working, not a labelling error.
What we do not change for plus
The features come across. Pockets stay. Built-in shorts stay. Our Plus Size Athletic Skort has the same bike-short-and-pocket construction as the straight-size version. Our plus swim cover-ups carry the same UPF 30+ fabric as the rest of the cover-up range. Inclusive should not mean a stripped-down version of the good product.
FAQ
Is ShopHDE plus size just the regular size graded up?
No. Plus size is a separate product line with its own patterns, its own size scales, and in most cases its own product listing with its own fit information.
What plus sizes do you carry?
Two systems, depending on the garment: numeric ranges of 14-16 Plus through 26-28 Plus, and X-sizing from 1X through 3X. The applicable scale is shown in the size selector on each product page.
Does 1X equal 14-16 Plus?
Not reliably. The two scales are used on different garment types with different fits. Always check the size chart on the specific product page.
Do plus size styles have pockets too?
Yes, wherever the straight-size version does. Look for "with Pockets" in the product title.
Where do I browse the whole plus line?
Start at Plus Size, then narrow by category — dresses, bottoms, tops, activewear, swim or sleepwear.
Is plus size activewear available?
Yes — see Plus Size Activewear, which includes skorts, bottoms and workout dresses.
